HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Downtown Hartford is buzzing with action.
From a high-profile gymnastics competition to a pop-up shop featuring dozens of local businesses, there’s much to enjoy.
Gymnastics fans have taken over downtown. If you’re heading to the XL Center anytime soon, the chances you’ll see someone doing a cartwheel, handstand, or another gymnastics move are very high.
The fans are excited to watch some of the biggest names in USA Gymnastics compete in Hartford.
Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and Suni Lee will all face off head to head for the first time.
The event is drawing a large crowd to the Capitol City and is expected to generate 1.8 million dollars for the city.
Just a short walk away on Allyn Street, dozens of local businesses are participating in what organizers call a “collaboration over competition” networking pop-up shop.
The event features more than 30 vendors, and organizers say they’re hoping this is the first of many events that bring small businesses together in Hartford.
“We’re looking at a networking event, trying to bring all CT businesses together. There’s local brands, local sneaker brands, local clothing brands, whatever you do with a small business you’re here today, and that’s all we’re trying to do bring people together,” said Jovan Huff, Organizer.
The pop-up shop continues on Allyn Street until 8 p.m.
The gymnastics competition ends at 9 p.m. tonight.
